The Friends of the Watson Institute program provides a vehicle through which Brown alumni and others can support and engage with the Institute, University, and each other through a shared interest in international affairs. Recent FoWI events have included previews of the new documentary Human Terrain in New York and San Francisco, as well as evenings with former US Sen. Lincoln Chafee ’75 and US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Richard Holbrooke '62 LLD'97 (hon.).

The FoWI program is chaired by Institute Overseer Lucinda B. Watson, daughter of the late Ambassador Thomas J. Watson, Jr., who founded the Institute to address contemporary global problems. FoWI members help shape the program and act as ambassadors for the Watson Institute and the University. This expanding network of Friends is central to achieving the Institute’s goals across the globe.
